X-PERI-MENTAL Playlist is a new music initiative devised by Nando’s offering a unique platform for exciting and emerging artists to showcase their talent. The programme involves a series of shows (one offs, secret gigs, bespoke events and tours), in various venues across the UK.

West London rapper Example, aka Elliot Gleave is the first act to team up with X-PERI-MENTAL Playlist. A long standing Nando’s fan, Example has even immortalised the PERI-PERI chicken brand in his songs ‘I Don’t Want To’ and ‘Birthday Card’ which led his fans to start championing Nando’s T Shirts at live shows.  After Example’s team approached Nando’s it was only natural for the restaurant brand to come on board and collaborate with Example on a series of live shows.

Nando’s spokesman David Manly says: `We`re really excited about our first showcase under our Xperimental Playlist programme. Nando`s is a true music enthusiast and with the music industry model constantly changing we felt that we could create unique opportunities for exciting emerging new talent. The line up for the first show is an eclectic mix of unsigned acts headlined by UK rapper Example, himself a huge Nando`s fan, for what promises to become a series of brilliant bespoke showcases`

Arriving into the public consciousness in 2006 with his self released single ‘I Don’t Want To’, Example received plays on Radio 1 by Pete Tong, Zane Lowe and Jo Whiley, while being offered major record deals and finally settling with Mike Skinner’s (The Streets), The Beats label.

Example’s second single ‘You Can’t Rap’ was released in March 2007 and his debut album ‘What We Made’ at the end of last year. Media coverage followed suit from titles as diverse as Hip Hop Connection, GQ, The Word, The Guardian, The Independent and Time Out among many others. He has performed live all over the UK supporting The Fratellis, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Plan B, Killa Kela, The Streets, Metronomy, De La Soul, Arrested Development and Hadouken.

Example’s team consists of him and producer Rusher and their sound goes back to hip hop basics by using big samples and creating a cinematic feel-good sound. As well as reshaping the likes of Britney’s ‘Toxic’, Lily’s Allen’s ‘Smile’ and  The Rolling Stones’ ‘Paint It Black’ at live shows the live set features a host of familiar samples and interpolations cribbed from sources as broad as Kylie Minogue, The Stranglers, The Carpenters and Muddy Waters. Example is by no means your stereotypical pop act, indie act or even hip hop act. With his pop sensibility and his rock star attitude all married together on stage with a commanding presence that most MC’s would only dream of, Example is the best of all worlds.

Also appearing on the night we have Hackney five-piece Black Cherry, a name to watch out for. Having supported The Wombats on a UK tour in 2007 and currently performing with Akala across the country they have just been confirmed as the opening act for the legendary Siouxsie. Their sound is a refreshing blend of electro infused rock.

Last but not least, Irish trio Good Tiger will be opening the event with their brilliant fusion of lo-fi kraut rock and folk-tronica. Carrying echoes of Berlin era David Bowie, NEU! and Wilco, Good Tiger have just completed their debut album ‘The Dynamics of Alcatraz’ and they should appeal to fans of Grand National and The Shortwave Set.
