Jumper Film Feature

Pyroradio.com caught up with Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson with the impending release of the highly anticipated ‘Jumper’. ‘Jumper’ is a science fiction thriller based on the Steven Gould’s novel of the same name. Jumper revolves around David Rice (Hayden Christensen – Star Wars, Shattered Glass) who possesses the ability to instantly teleport anywhere in the world he can imagine, in the blink of an eye he can stand on Big Ben’s dial, have breakfast on the top of the Egyptian Sphinx, spend he day surfing or do the little things everyone wishes they can do like teleporting to their remote control! ‘Jumper’ is directed by Doug Liman (Bourne Identity, Mr and Mrs Smith) who brought to the film a highly stylised guerrilla style of filming. Hayden Christensen comments ‘Doug is very unique in the way he films, it’s fly on the wall style, It was a lot of fun globe trotting, we spent a lot of time on planes. He’s a very intelligent man as well I learnt a great deal’ Rachel adds ‘One day there might be a set location then the next he’ll be at your door saying were going to Paris for a couple hours, then as soon as we land he’ll have his camera on his shoulder filming home movie style, there’s an actual part in the movie that is taken from these sort of shots, it was definitely an adventure’, Haydon adds ‘People probably thought we were doing a student film the way a lot of the film was shot, we were just roaming around shooting’.

David’s ability to teleport has led him to escape from his broken home (in which his father is abusive and his mother left when he was five), take advantage of unlimited wealth (by robbing banks) and to remain completely independent. Yet his life turns when David discovers another young man with the same ability, a fiery, anti-authority globetrotting rebel named Griffin (Jamie Bell – Billy Elliot, King Kong), at first they get off to a shaky start yet Griffin slowly reveals the truth of his existence, that he is not just a lone freak of nature, but part of a long line of genetic anomalies known as ‘Jumpers’. Amidst all of this David starts to fall in love with his childhood friend Millie (Rachel Bilson – the OC) and offers to take her to Rome where everything changes for them when David gets identified by a secret organization called the Paladin, who have sworn to kill the ‘Jumpers’ - as they believe they are too powerful and dangerous for the world. The Paladin are lead by Roland played by the king of cool Samual L Jackson in who both Rachel and Hayden confirm his cool credentials Hayden comment’s ‘He is legitimately cool (laughs)’, Rachel adds ‘To be honest I was very intimidated by him when I first met him, but when you get to know him he’s such a nice guy, the first scene I done with him was when he threw me against a wall which was a bit intimidating but he does exude cool (Laughs)’.

Jumpers is a brilliant action movie, it’s an 88 minute rollercoaster full of multi dimensional characters, an intense plot and more destinations than the Northern Line! Jumper ending is left wide open to a sequel in which Hayden comment’s ’I’m very open to it, I love the idea of it and there’s loads you can do with the story, I’ve spoke with Doug and he said he’s already got four story’s’. When asked what special power would they like to possess if they could choose any Hayden replied ‘I might just go for teleportation you know, I’d be able to go anywhere and the chance to not sit in traffic and take long plane rides and all the things that get under my skin is too tempting ‘, Rachel replies ‘I’d have to agree! I could jump away from annoying people and go anywhere in a split second instead of taking eleven hour flights’.

Be sure to check out ‘Jumper’ when it’s released 14th Febuary.
