Lethal Bizzle interview
Transport for London (TfL) has teamed up with Lethal Bizzle to help raise awareness of the Zip Oyster photocard. Zip is the new free Oyster photocard for 11-15 year olds who qualify for free travel in the Capital. Pyroradio.com caught up with Lethal Bizzle to see what he’s got in sotre for 2008 and talk about his work with TFL.
Pyroradio.com: How’s life keeping?
Lethal Bizzle: Life is good, it’s very good to be honest with you.
Pyroradio.com: So how did you hook up with Transport For London?
Lethal Bizzle: Basically they hollered at me, they know I’ve got a fan base with teenagers and they wanted to get a message and information across to them about the new Oyster Card which allows them to travel around London for free. They have to sign up by the 10th of May either at the Post Office or at the TFL website. It reminded me of when I was at that age and paying 40p to go on buses and that, if it was free I could have got a lot more done so it’s a big thing and I wanted to get involved.
Pyroradio.com: I know your starting a tour in April what can people expect from that?
Lethal Bizzle: Yeah It’s my tour with this album, I’ve got one more single with Kate Nash coming out from it. That’s gonna be released around May time, I’ve got the tour, I’m gonna be doing festivals then the next album man, more or less early next year, I was gonna try and bring it out in September but I think the new year will bring about excitement and more new music. The tour in April I’ve got Bashy supporting me, I’m trying to get a few other people, since I crossed over I’ve always been one to show love, I wanna bring them people on the road and meet new audiences cos my fan base has changed and these people really love the music, they buy into you and the music, it’s what this grime garage thing needs.
Pyroradio.com: How has the audience changed since you first came out with More Fire and even your first album?
Lethal Bizzle: It’s a different kind of energy, when you do the clubs it’s always hype and people jumping in the air and singing your bars and getting forwards, with the new audience you get that, but you also get mans crowd surfing as well and mosh pitting, it’s a rock energy. When Pow comes on everyone erupts. My concert is that energy from start to finish it’s straight mayhem, I might drop a couple mellow tunes to give them a breather but then I bring it back up and it goes off! I have fun, I love performing more than anything.
Pyroradio.com: So where’s been your favourite place to perform?
Lethal Bizzle: It’s got to be the festivals, Reading Festival last year was probably the best show I’ve done in my life , the reaction was crazy. It made me realise this grime thing the people care, when you see 25,000 people out there singing along to your songs which were made in bedrooms, no top class studios and they appreciate it. But really the festivals it’s a good feeling.
Pyroradio.com: So how would you personally describe your music?
Lethal Bizzle: My music is just energy, but for me it’s all about having a good time, I’m from the Garage/Grime scene that’s where I’m from and I’m always gonna be representing that but people get confused, cos I’m from that doesn’t mean I can only do that type of music, I’m an artist I want to touch different boundaries, I’m not scared to do the un expected. I do me more than everything, the most important thing is having a good time man.
Pyroradio.com: Your next single with Kate Nash how did that collaboration come about?
Lethal Bizzle: We done a song a while ago before she was big and signed. I was just amazed by her voice, it was different and so British, so I hollered at her on myspace saying I like her voice I’ve got a song and I want you to sing it, she was cool and she knew my other stuff with More Fire and Pow. So she came down to the studio and heard it and was like cool, the rest is history, I hope it can do good things man.
Pyroradio.com: So what else have you got in store for 2008
Lethal Bizzle: The tour, the new album slightly iv got a few ideas it keeps changing I’m trying to think of new ideas so I’m brainstorming for that. Touring, Festivals. Fire Camp are dropping a mixtape,2Face as well. I’m starting a new label as well I can’t give too much away yet, I’ve got some new producers and artists coming through ?
