Chipmunk is the most prominent rising artist who currently is taking the grime scene by storm. As young as Chipmunk is, he has already released THREE mixtapes entitled `Whatever The Weather` Volumes 1 & 2 and `League Of My Own` which have firmly cemented Chipmunks place as one of the artists to do big things in 2008!  Pyroradio.com caught up with Chipmunk to see what he’s got in store for 2008!!!!

Pyroradio.com: How’s life keeping bruv?

Chipmunk: Yeah I’m good man, I’m working on the album at the moment, League Of My Own is out now and regulating, the videos regulating everything’s running nice man

Pyroradio.com: So how’s it feel to be getting so much hype and ratings at the moment?

Chipmunk: You know what it’s a lovely feeling to have. Carrying the flag for the youths but there’s only so far I can go carrying the flag for the youths, with the album I wanna take it that step further man.

Pyroradio.com: So what can people expect from the album and when are you looking to put that out?

Chipmunk: Late summer it’s dropping, what you can expect is progress, I never drop a CD without showing no progress, in mind of the target audiences it’s not just grime but there is some HARD grime on there, but people don’t just wanna hear grime I wanna please everyone, the ladies, your aunties, your uncles, your nans, grandmas, cousins, brothers, sisters so I’m trying to get a bit of everything on there but predominately it’s gonna be grime still.

Pyroradio.com: What producers have you got working on your album and have you got any features?

Chipmunk: Always Recordings the Label so the production team from there you’ve got Maniac it’s gonna be nice believe. I’m keeping the features quiet for now so when the album drops people can be surprised.

Pyroradio.com: I know you’re only 17 and you put out three mixtapes already how often are you in the studio?

Chipmunk: My age worked for me but you can’t just play off of age, you have to stand up tune for tune with someone ten years older than you or even ten years younger than you cos I know when I’m twenty seven I know there ain’t gonna be shit hotter than me but fortunately right now with the older generation the youngsters are competing, the young guns are firing. I’m in the studio everyday wherever it be recording, vibesing, helping someone out or writing, I’m in there everyday man, I’m in the studio now just taking a break for the interview.

Pyroradio.com: A lot of the youngers have come up through clashing you really cemented your name through your music what are your thoughts on clashing?

Chipmunk: I can’t lie I did clash a bit still, but it’s 2008 I haven’t got time for it, last year in between 10 and 20 mc’s called my name but listen to my freestyle on my myspace, but if you wanna clash let’s do this properly let’s meet up, set a date, put some money in the pot, if it’s a free thing I’m not on that, people just want to clash to eat of my name I’m not on that, why don’t people just do music together we can get there twice as quickly as clashing you smell me.

Pyroradio.com: Yeah man so when is League Of My Own getting a digital release?

Chipmunk: It’s on the 11^th of Febuary so make sure you get downloading something for money so check that out on the 11^th of Feb.

Pyroradio.com: What are your thoughts on bootlegging I know there’s a lot of talk on people bootlegging at the moment?

Chipmunk: You know what it’s only talk cos where living in London mate, over in America they don’t bitch how they bitch over here, if a man wants to vocal a next mans beat shut your mouth, the producer shouldn’t put the instrumental out simple as that. Everyone’s trying to get to the same place why you bitching for, producers are trying to extort mans I tell you this much if your extorting for beats I’m extorting for vocals, everyone should just be level headed, don’t be bastards

Pyroradio.com: What else have you got in store for 2008?

Chipmunk: Really I’m just focusing on my album, a hundred percent focus on my album, you’ll still here me smacking up radio and I know I’m gonna be down for Pyro, got love for Pyroradio all day long man. But really the album man I’m going hard cos there’s a lot of albums dropping this year, I’ve just got to make sure mines not one that stays on the shelf you feel me.

Chipmunk: I can’t even count five to be honest with you at the moment besides the team I’m working with, everyone’s coming with the skeng this, shank that, bore that, merk that, it’s the next step now man.
