DJ EZ Interview

Pyroradio.com caught up with a legend in the Uk music industry and the greatest UK Garage Dj……….mr DJ EZ! With the release of PUREGARAGE <> Back To The Old Skool Pyroradio.com caught up with the man himself to talk about his thoughts on the Garage scene, Bassline, his biggest tunes, the new Pure Garage Cd and more!

Pyroradio.com: How you doing bruv.

DJ EZ: I had a very late one and I’m just getting up you know(laughs). Everything’s been good though, I’ve just been busy, with album and that

Pyroradio.com: How long did it take to put together the Cd cos it’s got 100 tracks?

DJ EZ: It took about a full week, part of the problem was finding the record producers and records labels who owned the tracks and that was a pain in the arse!

Pyroradio.com: How did you choose the tracks?

DJ EZ: What they did was go through the previous Pure Garages and hand pick the biggest anthems, and what I said was I wanted Cd 4, the last Cd on there has to be new stuff, all the tracks on there were chosen by me.

Pyroradio.com: What are your thoughts on Garage at the moment?

DJ EZ: I think the scenes cool at the moment, it’s getting back up there, especially with the success of ‘Heartbroken’ and all the gigs I’ve been to lately have been mad busy and the vibes been really good. I think it’s going really good mate, 2008 watch out!

Pyroradio.com: What are you thinking of the Bassline scene, it seems like it’s blowing up now.

DJ EZ: To me I find it quite strange that they’ve relabeled it as a new genre, in my eyes it’s still garage. I’m liking it, I’m playing the stuff, it’s got good energy.

Pyroradio.com: Who do you thinks gonna be big in 2008 producers and dj’s?

DJ EZ: I think T2’s gonna come out with some more bangers, Dj wise I haven’t got a clue you know, there are some good dj’s coming through though and same with producers, I’m too tired t answer this one (laughs)!

Pyroradio.com: What track do you get the biggest reception from at the moment?

DJ EZ: At the moment it’s probably the Bassline stuff, obviously the ‘Heartbroken’ which the girls love and sing along to! The Dj Q track with MC Bones – ‘You What’ is another banger as well, those are the main two right now

Pyroradio.com: Name a couple of the biggest old school tracks in your record bag at the moment ?

DJ EZ: One of the tracks has to be ‘Roy Davis Jnr - Gabriel’, that goes down well everywhere, no matter where I play. Uuummmmmm ‘Sia – Little Man’ always goes down well, there the two for me at the moment I can think of.

Pyroradio.com: What you got planned for New Years?

DJ EZ: I got five gigs lined up for New Years Eve, I usually do Z uncut event but I’m not doing that this year cos we had some problems with the venue, I’m pushing that to March instead. In January I’m gonna take about three weeks off, just chill out.

Pyroradio.com: So what else have you got in store for 2008?

DJ EZ: I’m going back in the studio 100% mate, cos I kinda miss making tunes and people keep asking me why I’ve stopped making tunes and there’s a few tracks I haven’t released that I’ve been playing for over a year and a half now, so I’m gonna make them available to buy. I’m gonna redesign my website, put some video, podcasts all that kinda stuff, a few more stuff as well watch this space mate.

Pyroradio.com: Your style of mixing is very different to the other Dj’s out there with how you cut and everything how did you come about with your style?

DJ EZ: That style developed in the early stages of my career, when I’d watch people like Kenny Ken, when I used to play on a station called Dance Fm and he was on there and used to chop the tracks instead of doing a basic fade in fade out and I really liked that style so I kinda incorporated that into my sets and it kinda just took of from there mate, from the Dance Fm days, to Freak Fm and then I started doing the clubs and got known from it, I like to do tricks, it makes the set more interesting.

Pyroradio.com: What’s been your favorite set you’ve ever done?

DJ EZ: There’s been loads mate. But one that stands out would have to be my first 4 x 4 event at Time & Envy in Romford that was just a wicked rave man, the vibe was so electric Todd Edwards was there nuff people

Pyroradio.com: Have you got any last words or shout outs?

DJ EZ: Of course big up Pyroradio.com and yourself, UKG in 2008 it’s on the up, watch out it’s gonna be massive and just respect to anyone who’s supported to me over the years.
