Bashy Interview
Pyroradio.com recently caught up with Bashy a week before the release of his debut album ‘Catch Me If You Can’. The phrase ‘Highly Anticipated’ is thrown around way too easily but with 3 well received mixtapes, big singles and being the musical advisor on the number box office hit Adulthood Bashy has earned his stripes and generated a buzz to warrant a ‘highly anticipated’ album and believe me he doesn’t disappoint, the album is crazy!
One of the most talented and genuine UK artists out he talks to Pyro about his new album, what he’s got in store for 2009, Bish Bash Bosh clothing and more
Pyroradio.com: How’s it feel your albums finally coming out? It’s been a long time coming.
Bashy: Yeah man, I’ve been doing mixtapes, freestyles, videos for a while now, it’s a bit surreal you know, my albums here, everyone’s talking about it, everyone wants to interview you. Someone said to me your not a professional artist until you’ve made an album, you can make a million mixtapes but it’s not professional, it kinda seems like that leap. When you’ve got a mixtape coming out you do a few interviews but as soon as you have an album it just changes.
Pyroradio.com: For those that don’t know who did you work with on the album?
Bashy: N Dubz, Jamelia, Loick, Wretch 32, Naughty Boy, Zalon, Sirach, Toddla T, Yolanda Brown, Scorcher it’s an eclectic range of music, it’s the soundtrack to what I talk about.

Pyroradio.com: The ‘Who wanted To Be A Millionaire’ track is big, how did the dance come about? A lot of people have been talking about that.
Bashy: It’s just something different, it shows I’m willing to try and do something outside of the box, I’m trying to carve my own career and my own path, it’s not about just being one of the rest, you need to be a leader and do what your doing, I’m a leader, no one from here has come like me before, I’m on my own thing I don’t wanna be like anyone else.
Pyroradio.com: If it was December 31st right now and the year had gone, what would you have liked to achieve?
Bashy: My album was well received, it’s not even a mad numbers things with me, people liked it, we finished what we had to do with Ransom, the lead role I’ve got in a film goes well, lead role I’ve got in Theatre goes well, the Bish Bash Bosh clothing goes well and people are wearing it, it’s not merchandise if you look at it it’s different. Everything I put out does the best it can do.
Pyroradio.com: With the clothing how did that come about?
Bashy: At the moment we’re just getting it ready, it’s kinda limited pieces at the moment so we wanna get it right, once we do them we’re moving on to the next thing. Bish Bash Bosh sounded right to me.
Pyroradio.com: The Ransom video track is a clever video, you tricked a lot of people on your blog with the pic. How did that come about?
Bashy: I recorded it about two years ago with Wretch and Scorcher. I’ve always told stories, from Ur Mum Vol 1 to Chupa Chupps, I cant remember if I done one of Bashy.com but with my cd’’s there’s always one story track, this time it’s Ransom. With the video we sat down with my team thinking of the best way of putting it out. With me I just like it getting out there, but they were like nah lets put it out there properly, we got the right director, I’m not even gonna lie I saw Tinie Tempahs Tears Video and I liked how it looked so we asked him if we could get this done, sat down with Wretch and Scorcher and then it was a rap. Then the picture came out and everyone went nuts, a lot of people were concerned about me, for those people I’m thankful they put me in their hearts like that. We just wanna move forward in as many innovative ways we can.
Pyroradio.com: Is the 2nd instalment of Ransom in the pipeline?
Bashy: We’re working on something a bit special, other people may feel pressured just to get something out there to please the people but for me you need the quality control. Same way Ransom part 1 landed, the same way the next one needs to land.
Pyroradio.com: What’s been the highlight of the year so far for you?
Bashy: Just finishing my album.
Pyroradio.com: You feel good without the beard?
Bashy: (laughs) Arr Blood that’s the best thing ever I swear, I was feeling depressed looking in the mirror, my beard was getting longer and longer but my albums not even finished. The fact that the albums coming out and people are interested, the fact that Bish Bash Bosh clothing is coming, the acting role. The film starts shooting end of July.

Pyroradio.com: What else you got coming this year? Touring, videos…..
Bashy: Yeah man I’m gonna be touring and pushing the album all year, it’s not a joke, I’m not making it to just get out there, I’m working it until I can’t work it no more. With this album I’m already on my fourth video, Black Boys, Kidulthood to Adulthood, Ransom, Who Want’s To Be A Millionaire already, we gonna do six or seven videos.
Pyroradio.com: What’s your thoughts on seeing your peers do so well in the charts with Tinchy Stryder being number 1 for 3 weeks, N Dubz, Wiley, Chipmunk doing well as well.
Bashy: It’s good it’s inspirational, I’m the only independent one everyone else is signed Chipmunk, Ironik, Wiley, N Dubz, Tinchy Stryder their all signed. That’s where you wanna take it though the level where Dizzee Rascal is at, then build on that.
Pyroradio.com: I know you’re involved with V-Inspired what’s that about? I know you were involved in Damon Albarn’s project as well
Bashy: Yeah man that was more of a musical exploration and no to knives campaign. V-Inspired is inspiring 16-25 year olds. Until you reach 30 you haven’t really even found your way so it’s good I can inspire people to do something I’m not even trying to be a role model like that but if I’m I can help I will.
Pyroradio.com: Where do you wanna see yourself in five years?
Bashy: I wanna do a album a year so probably 4 albums deep, Bish Bash Bosh has taken off the in the direction I wanna see it go, I don’t see it as merchandise it’s more of a brand, I don’t want people just to wear it cos it’s mine I want people to wear it cos it looks good. Touring hard and acting. I wanna be a ground breaking artist each time I come, I wanna come fresh every time. Every time I’ve come its been different already Ransoms different to Millionaire, Black Boys Is different as well, same with Kidulthood to Adulthood, every time I’ve come I’ve come different. A lot of people just churn out the same stuff, I don’t do that.
Catch Me If You Can is out June 1st!
